Catching up with Sven
I sat down with Associate Director, Sven Hanger, to catch up on his time at NSTR, and the Transaction Services/Advisory market....
What's your experience been like so far at NSTR?
"Since joining NSTR back in May, my time over the past 3 months has flown by! Being able to work with an established team in the market, with a strong network of clients and candidates has made for a monumental few months of collaboration and building relationships. It's been great working with the wider advisory team, leveraging the network within NSTR to build out my own desk as well as bringing in my old relationships with clients.
Since joining NSTR I have also brought on new clients, that will not only impact the Advisory desk but also the wider business, with the aim to continue to build out NSTR into the leading corporate finance and advisory recruitment firm in the UK."
Whats been a personal highlight?
"Making my first placement at NSTR so soon after joining was definitely a highlight, collaborating with Tom on a Transaction Services Senior Manager role with an established client. The placement of course, shows the benefit of a having a strong network myself and also the network and impact NSTR has in the market.
Being able to bring my own clients into the business as well as utilising an established CRM has been vital for kick starting a strong start here.
I also attended a recent client networking event which was a great change to speak with a number of accounting professionals in a relaxed setting. NSTR even won the main prize in the raffle!"
Which projects have you been working on recently?
"I am working on some really interesting roles from boutiques to consultancy firms across the UK and London, recruiting into core markets.
I have also introduced some new markets into NSTR with roles within Valuations, FP&A at Manager level through to Director, roles within Business Transformation and also Integration & Separation Advisory roles too.
I have just placed two Directors into two boutique advisory firms in London, and have lots of candidates at various interview stages for roles across Transaction Services, M&A Lead Advisory, Financial Planning & Analysis and Integration & Separation Advisory."
Which clients are you working with right now?
"I am working on a variety of clients from Top 10 Accountancy firms to a range of boutique advisory firms as well as large private equity backed consultancy firms, as we are seeing a lot of these established firms, both UK and globally, going through significant growth.
I have just agreed PSL terms with 3 new clients from regional boutiques and consultancy firms and my work in progress is the highest it's been for 2 years, as we are now starting to see the recruitment market pick up again.
What's the market like?
"The market is definitely starting to pick up as we are seeing an increase in activity, which is really positive for us here, especially as the Corporate Finance and Advisory market mirrors the Deal Advisory market.
There seems to be a lot of activity across boutique and consultancy firms, which is definitely encouraging as we enter into the second half of 2024, with Partners?also indicating an increase in deal activity."

What's your plan for the remainder of Q3 and going into Q4?
"I will be continuing to focus on core markets within Transaction Services and M&A Lead Advisory but also pushing our new service lines including Valuations, Integration & Separation and Strategy & Valuation.
We will continue to work with good clients and candidates to make some solid placements both with our existing client portfolio and new business, as we enter our next growth plans."
