Catching people doing things right

We can be so vicious in analysing why things went wrong, can’t we? To ourselves and others. We can be so good at an audit of why things failed. We can go over and over it in our heads, replaying the whole scene. It can take up a lot of our time. Perhaps we are replaying when someone else did something wrong as well. When a person has done something wrong, if we are obsessing about it, we are focusing on all the negatives. We may even try to point these out to be helpful.
Let’s try a different tact. What if we spent a lot of time analysing why something went right? What was it about what went right? What did a person love about it? What did they feel, think and do? Is that something that they would want to happen again? How did it affect us? Are we celebrating with them?
We can literally help people to be their best selves and navigate away from negativity if we change our attitude. Sometimes people are so stuck on what they did wrong or imperfectly that they don’t create more situations where things go right. This heavy, dense energy of focusing on the negative just perpetuates more negativity for our environment. How we think, spills out into the atmosphere, and infects everyone.

So, what if we were all noticing what people were doing right, showing interest, and really trying to understand how that works? People would obviously do more of it and it may lead to them feeling happier. They may feel more appreciated as well. We would really get to know how a person ticks. We would become an ally for their best selves rather than a silent adversary tearing them down in our minds. We would be co-creating their success with them.
Our minds are a powerful tool to improve the success of those around us. Choose your focus wisely to create the environment you want.
