Catch Yourself Before Being Swept Away by Negative Emotions

It’s so easy to get swept up with our emotions when things don’t go as planned.?

As a corporate executive, you are often faced with pressure, stress and challenges.?

Be it in leading your teams, dependencies on external stakeholders or clients - not everything goes as planned.?

When faced with an obstacle, especially one that was unexpected, we can slip into negative thinking patterns.

Here is the recipe I use to catch myself before falling into that trap.?

I can sense the signs when my thinking turns negative.?

I start becoming judgmental.

I start telling people what to do.

I start assessing situations in a negative light.

My heartbeat quickens.?

That is my body's signal to slow down and I do that with meditation.?

At home, we have a prayer room dedicated to this purpose.?

I simply go there and sit down.?

It's amazing how in just 15-20 minutes of focusing on your breathing, clearing your head, loosening your muscles and tuning into the wisdom of your soul, can make all the difference.?

Meditation is all about connecting to the larger knowledge we all possess, what we call "para brahmam" – the universal consciousness.?

We're all part of the universe.

We should all look at how we can contribute rather than negate.

Negative thoughts will always arise. It’s not about bottling them up but instead using meditation as a form of release.

Meditation may work for you, or there can be other ways to regulate yourself.

What we need to remember is that everyone means well, and our role as leaders is to help them succeed.?
