COMBATING THE SUNDAY SCARIES!?Seven Ideas to Improve the Upcoming Work Week

This week: Let's play catch!

We're all back from what may have been a long weekend in honor of our veterans, and now it's time to catch up - in more areas than one!

1. Allow space to?catch up?with someone in your life.

An old friend, a distant family member, or a co-worker down the hall. It's important to connect regularly with the people in your life. We all get so busy it's easy to forget to stay close to those important to us.

I was at a wedding this weekend with my husband's (giant) family, which provided an excellent way to catch up with many loved ones we only see on special occasions. Admittedly, it's a little overwhelming for this girl who has one sibling and two cousins, but I'll look forward to the next one for sure!

-->It's almost like networking, but with your own friend and family network. Who knew!?

2.?Play Catch!

Quite literally. Let's play ball!

For those of you in warmer climates, you may still be able to join a company team looking for a catcher for the Tuesday night bee (ahem, work) league, or if you live where it's currently 15 degrees and has snowed so much the ski areas are opening weeks early (giddy!), you could head off to an indoor batting cage or indoor court to shoot some hoops.

Picking up that ball can transport you back to your younger days when team sports were the epicenter of activity - and lessons and less adulting made life a lot simpler.

3.?Catch yourself from thinking?those?thoughts.

Don't spiral. It's a dangerous path to be on.

I know a thing or two about having an overactive brain that doesn't want to shut off at night. I texted Meredith Schurch immediately upon waking at 4:44 last week with the perfect iteration of a tagline we had been trying to wordsmith; the eureka moment came to me just as I was waking up to catch an early flight. If you're in the same boat, try to steer those thoughts toward constructive things; keep a notebook by your bedside to get the ideas out of your head as well.

Whether it's the middle of the night or high noon, be aware of the tone of your thoughts. There is proof of the power of positive thinking, so be sure to focus on the good things to come. We're really good at being our own worst critics, so stay tuned into that little voice inside your head and stop yourself before it takes you down the road to negativity.

4.?Catch yourself from saying something you'll regret.

Think before you speak.

Even when you don't agree, you don't always have to share your opinion, especially when it wasn't asked for. There's a time and place for discussion; it may not be in the board room or at the (virtual) water cooler, so read the room and know when words are worth saying aloud and when they're worth keeping to yourself.

5.?Catch a fish!

This is one of my favorite outdoor past times, even in cool weather! There's nothing like catching wild Colorado trout from the banks of our local Gold Medal waters, and winter fishing can actually be very fruitful.

There is something therapeutic about pulling a wiggly fish out of the water. Yeah, it's slimy and slippery - and a little freaky - the first time you land one, but it also feels good to get your hands on that fish skin. Other than the supermarket, a living "breathing" fish isn't something we see every day, and I can always appreciate how they live totally different lives than us even though we're on the same Earth.

So, stop drowning and?remember to breathe.

And always catch and release :)

6.?Catch your breath!

Slow down.

Stop overscheduling yourself.

Take a break.

Enjoy the upcoming holidays!

7.?Go catch a movie!

The year-end blockbusters are hitting the big screens, so get some girlfriends or grab the kids and go out for a real in-theater movie night! I was riding around in the car with my husband and his family earlier today, and we were all reminiscing about the first movie we saw in theaters - The Little Mermaid in 1989!

Take a break from the streaming option and give someone in your life a great memory of movie theater butter, junior mints, and the experience of the big screen!

Angie
