An analysis of smokable hemp products found that 93% of tested samples contain more than 0.3% THC, which is the federal legal limit as outlined in the 2018 U.S. Farm Bill.

The products were analyzed for delta-8 THC, delta-9 THC, THCA and total delta-9 THC using liquid chromatography with photodiode array detection and methanol extraction.

The number of products containing various types of hemp-derived THC have surged since the 2018 Farm Bill.

But in the absence of federal enforcement of such products, it has largely been up to state governments to decide how to regulate them.

Recreational marijuana sales in Ohio could begin in two months , far ahead of previous estimates as regulators move quickly to establish the newest adult-use market in the Midwest.

“We could have retailers, recreational licensed retailers, in Ohio by mid-June,” state Rep. Jamie Callender told Cleveland TV station WEWS.

“We should begin to see legal recreational sales of marijuana in Ohio certainly before July 4th weekend.”

The Independence Day holiday is one of the best days of the year for cannabis retailers.

The future of federal regulation for hemp-derived cannabinoids is hard to predict – but industry stakeholders might find a crystal ball in the form of Texas .

So far, Texas regulators have taken a hands-off approach that has allowed the state’s hemp-derived cannabinoid sector to thrive.

Shayda Torabi, CEO and co-founder of Restart in Austin, said Texas also has proved states can have a legal market for intoxicating hemp-derived cannabinoids that doesn’t go the conventional route of legalizing medical marijuana and then recreational cannabis.

There’s “no reason” for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to delay its long-awaited decision on moving marijuana from Schedule 1 to Schedule 3 of the Controlled Substances Act, the head of the Food and Drug Administration told a House committee.

However,? FDA Commissioner Robert Califf seemed to hint Thursday that the DEA could treat adult-use marijuana – now legal in 25 states – differently than cannabis used for medicinal purposes.

Canadian cannabis and beverage alcohol company Tilray Brands has lowered its financial guidance , reducing expectations for investors in its third-quarter earnings announcement.

Tilray’s previous guidance for fiscal year 2024 of $68 million-$78 million in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) “is no longer feasible,” Chief Financial Officer Carl Merton said during an earnings call.

“We have therefore lowered our adjusted EBITDA range to be between $60 (million) and $63 million,” he said.

Merton also said Tilray no longer expects to meet its previous guidance of achieving positive adjusted free cash flow for the full 2024 fiscal year.
