Zelda's Original Gourmet Pizza has reopened with new management in Midtown Sacramento. The longtime restaurant, which was closed for a couple months, is currently open for to-go orders only.

In other Midtown restaurant news, an eatery that closed earlier this year has been accused by its landlord of breaching its contract.

Hoptology Beer Lab + Kitchen, which operated at 2001 J St. in Midtown, was spearheaded by locally based Tropics Restaurant Group.

Last week, the owner of the Midtown space filed a lawsuit in Sacramento County Superior Court against the restaurant group and its CEO Pat Kashani.

The lawsuit alleges the restaurant breached its lease agreement by failing to pay rent in the aggregate amount of $45,000, and that it would continue to breach the lease by failing to pay required rent for the remainder of the agreement, which runs through July 1, 2029. Damages were estimated to total approximately $570,200. Read more

Big week for Sacramento Republic FC fans

The tribe that owns Sky River Casino in Elk Grove will become the majority owner of professional soccer team Sacramento Republic FC , officials announced Thursday.

With its majority ownership of Sac Republic, Wilton Rancheria will become the first Native American nation to have a majority ownership in men’s professional sports, according to the announcement.?Read more

Also on Thursday, officials announced a new plan to build a soccer stadium for Sacramento Republic FC in the Railyards development north of Downtown Sacramento.

Mayor Darrell Steinberg said the Sacramento City Council will vote Tuesday on a term sheet that works with Downtown Railyard Venture LLC and Wilton Rancheria to solidify an enhanced infrastructure financing district that will help pay for both the stadium and adaptive reuse of an existing Railyards building into a 3,600-seat live events venue called the Paint Shop. Costco submits new plan for El Dorado Hills

El Dorado County has received a new plan for a Costco Wholesale retail development on Silva Valley Parkway in El Dorado Hills, with some sizable changes.

The new plan drops both a 304-unit apartment project and 14,000 square feet of other retail, but adds a Costco-branded gas station, county spokeswoman Carla Hass said in an email.

County officials expected the plan to change after the Issaquah, Washington-based warehouse shopping giant closed escrow in August on the entire 40-acre site for the project known as EDH 52. Read more


Local group buying Vic's Ice Cream in Land Park

Vic's Ice Cream, which has operated for nearly 80 years under the leadership of the Rutledge family, is in the process of being sold to a local group intent on maintaining the Land Park staple's legacy.

The family-owned ice cream parlor at 3199 Riverside Blvd. in Sacramento was opened by co-founders Ashley Rutledge and Vic Zito. For the last several decades, the business had been operated by Rutledge's son, Craig Rutledge, who died in March. The business and its property were?put on the market for sale in August. Read more


Capitol Mall's medians getting face-lift

The grassy medians along Capitol Mall are getting a face-lift funded largely by the building owners along the boulevard that leads to the Capitol building from the Tower Bridge.

The work is happening now from Third to Eighth streets, with the last block set to occur after the California International Marathon, which will be using that block for events in the first week of December.

"This is a signature boulevard for Sacramento and for Northern California," said Michael Ault , executive director of the Downtown Sacramento Partnership , a property business improvement district for Downtown. Read more


Local eatery submits plans for closed post office

Yes, we have one more pizza story.

Big changes are coming to the closed post office building at 320 Vernon St. in downtown Roseville — in fact, they may have already begun.

Reese Browning , co-owner of Old Town Pizza, said demolition crews may have already started abatement work on asbestos and lead in the nearly 90-year-old building, presaging conversion?into a new location?for his restaurant.

Browning submitted plans to the city in the last week for adaptive reuse of the post office building, which his group bought for $1.75 million. Read more
