To Catch a Chinese MSS / IP Spy—UPDATE II

To Catch a Chinese MSS / IP Spy—UPDATE II

*Previously published on my blog:?IPProbe.Global

This week the?New York Times (NYTs)?published an article online (that will also appear this Sunday in their March 12th?New York Times Magazine?issue) titled,?“The Daring Ruse That Exposed China’s Campaign to Steal American Secrets.”

It is another comprehensive take on the Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS) agent that was arrested in Belgium four years ago and extradited to the U.S. to stand trial for conspiring to steal U.S. aviation trade secrets. This MSS spy was the first ever extradited to the U.S.

He was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison this past December.

As my previous posts examined, and a?Bloomberg/Business Week?article published in September last year did as well, the?New York Times?explores the lengths the Chinese state will go to steal U.S. trade secrets.

Here is one excerpt from the?NYTs?piece that partially captures the range of Chinese trade secrets theft efforts:

“The Ministry of State Security, along with other Chinese government-backed organizations, spends considerable effort recruiting spies from this diaspora. Chinese students and faculty members at American universities are a major target, as are employees at American corporations.”

If you want a true insight into how Chinese MSS trade secrets spies operate, the?Bloomberg?and?New York Times?articles are terrific reads.
