Catastrophes Do Not Discriminate

Catastrophes Do Not Discriminate

Looking back at the course of human history all over the planet, it’s easy to be stunned by the significant impact of various disasters.

With the world becoming one single body, catastrophes do not discriminate between parts of the body. When one part of the body gets hurt, the rest of the body suffers.

No one denies the damage, pain and suffering that every catastrophe may bring with it; but history has proven that all catastrophes have been temporary and testifies that humanity has always been able to learn, adapt and rebuild.  They have led to big changes, transformations and have become a source of solidarity, inspiration, innovation, and some have changed the course of human history to the world we know today.

When one compiles the lessons learned from the most impactful historical disasters, one would realize that the impact of any of these disasters is not measured by only the damage they have brought, but also the positive change they have created or introduced.   They are among the historical events that have a profound impact on humanity as a whole, their awareness, their understanding, their knowledge, their collaboration, respect, empathy and care of oneself and each other.   The current crisis is a real not academic experience that holds within the potential of the inception of a new world which can be perceived by some people as a danger and by others as an opportunity.  The significance of this opportunity can become greater when people of the world, nation of society share common devout values.

These values are manifested in a wide variety of ways; the most important of them comes through the existence of a vision, engagement, care, trust and giving back to everyone.  Those who are lucky are those who serve others.

May God keep you safe, grant you peace, wisdom, fulfilment, and answers all of your prayers.

You take care and stay blessed

I think of this as once in our lifetime opportunity to connect with our values and families and reassess our priorities in life and what really matters and redefine what normal should be. We all have seen dramatically improved productivity, more bonding with family and capitalized on the time lost in commutes and unnecessary small talk to learn new hobbies, gain new skills and so on. It is a really unique time in history and we should make the best of it. I hope we come up with new definitions of post-pandemic normalcy as individuals and organizations

Remember Kotter saying that every change needs an urgency #SaeedMubarak? There you go. This one has provoked immediate deep changes in the operational layers of any enterprise, triggering also changes in the architecture that have been on the shelve for decades, and now that time passes, it starts to become visible that also the organization itself will need to change fast or fall back. Funny enough no politics, vision, mission, or values have provoked this, but they surely have influenced how to react. It's pure survival of the fittest and the already most adaptable and creative leaders and teams are now most successful given the situation. These are also the ones that understand the value of Change Management and in that sense, Covid is a very strong filter for transformational leadership, separating those who are from those who are not. I see organizations who tell me: "Ohh we have so many people with PTSS now, you best come back next year" and those who say: "Please can you help us immediately measure how people are doing and help our leaders adjust realtime to their needs, so we can cope with this?" So yes, catastrophes do not discriminate, but what you do with them becomes predictable
