Catapulting the cloud with More than Moore

Microsoft's Catapault project has recently made the news. Congrats to Doug Burger (a friend from the Msft days) and team. I think it is an important advance that is indicative of why cloud computing will continue to gain traction. The hyper-scale cloud providers like Microsoft and Amazon will be able to make the investments to leverage more than Moore technologies like this to accelerate cloud workloads. By owning the entire stack with the in-depth knowledge of the workloads and the ability to abstract the hardware, over time, it will be harder for the on-premise model to compete. Oil and gas workloads will benefit from the higher 25Gbps and decreased latency. We live in interesting times!
