Catalyzing Change in Our Communities on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to creating a more just, equitable and inclusive society, not only for underserved communities, but for everyone. His servant leadership mobilized a movement that rippled across the globe, helping to bend the arc of history toward his vision of equal opportunity and justice for all.
On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, our people at Boeing are working to catalyze change. We’re honoring his legacy by observing a national day of service that encourages Americans to volunteer in their communities.
Some Boeing teammates are volunteering for the National Museum of African American History and Culture to help transcribe historical documents and further illuminate the African American experience post-Civil War. Others are helping the American Red Cross trace satellite imagery to create maps of rural communities to expedite aid going forward. And some are donating their time to support local nonprofits where they live. To extend the impact of our team’s service, Boeing will contribute $10 for every hour our people volunteer today through Feb. 28.
This volunteer matching program is our latest initiative to help advance racial equity in our company and in our communities. Last year, we announced a commitment of – at a minimum – $25 million over the next four years to support programs and partnerships that create opportunities for communities of color and those from other underserved communities. We also entered into a partnership with Allen University, an HBCU (historically Black college and university) in South Carolina, to advance civil discourse and equip future leaders with tools to debate public issues with civility and respect — much like Dr. King envisioned.
At Boeing, our investment in our people extends to the communities where they live and work. We cannot confront racism and injustice or achieve equity, diversity and inclusion within our four walls without broadening this important work to the communities our employees represent.
As Dr. King said, “Everybody can be great…because everybody can serve.”
Inspired by Dr. King’s vision, we unite ourselves through service in pursuit of a better, brighter future.

3 年Would be nice if Boeing had the day off. Like the rest of the US, who honors him on MLK Day. That would show our commitment to his vision of equality and diversity.
