Cat and Mouse Chase: Google and OpenAI's Events Raise Eyebrows and Doubts
In the technology world, 谷歌 and OpenAI stand out as major players, and recently, both companies held their respective events to unveil their latest innovations, but here's the twist – they scheduled these AI-oriented events at almost the same time (with a few hours gap).
This move has left many scratching their heads and wondering why two tech companies who claim their innovation will benefit mankind would choose to compete with each other in such a direct hustle.
Now, in the beginning, you might be confused as to why Google and OpenAI would compete openly because when you work for a common goal (benefiting mankind), there is no such competition or rivalry; rather you work in tandem to achieve it.
However, this is not always the case in real life, especially in the technology industry.
Although both tech companies have partnered on specific projects in the past, it seems like they are by all means equal competitors in the technological ecosystems.
It can be seen as a game of cat and mouse, in which each side fights tooth and nail to surpass the other side in achieving supremacy for artificial intelligence.
OpenAI is like the unconventional rebel, getting in and up to new limits within the area of AI research and development, while Google DeepMind is like the established authority, having at its disposal tremendous resources and data to make extraordinary strides.
One of these strategies could be a tactical move whereby there will be the stealing of each other’s thunder. Possibly, Google and OpenAI intended to distract the public from their competitor's announcements by launching their products and offerings concurrently.?

My perspective, this inflexion point we are on with AI, the opportunity that I see, you want to zoom out, the fact that one event happened over a day, does not matter over time. - Google CEO Sundar Pichai said.
Nevertheless, this tactic can also turn negative, with people facing difficulties in exploring in depth both events.
The other factor that should be taken into account is the desire to show superiority over others and emerge as an industry paramount. With a common timing for their events, both companies may have demonstrated their superiority and competitive edge by simply challenging the other company to match.?
This method of fighting for market share might lead to higher stakes and thus increased competition which can accordingly compromise partnerships and common advancement.
Moreover, the decision to plan events in parallel could be an indication of a lack of communication or coordination between Google and OpenAI. Although cooperation between them during several projects is a fact, these events probably happened on different dates without coordination.?
This faux pas is not only an indication of a divide between the two companies but also shows the deeper problem of internal competition and factional thinking in the tech industry.
?Moreover, the concurrent planning of events also has an “angular effect” on clients, partners, and other key stakeholders. It tells us that these companies are just as ready to compete, despite their shared goals and interests, as they are to collaborate and generate mutual advantages.
This highly selfish attitude affects the public's trust and the spirit of a company which is necessary for technological innovation and the advancement of humanity.?
At the end of the day, Google and OpenAI’s move to hold both AI-oriented events at the same time could appear as a power play, but in reality, it simply shows how broken and competitive the tech sector is.?
Rather than uniting to the breaking point of what's doable, they busy themselves mainly with the job of each other. And that's a shame for each one of us who expected something amazing when the festival was ending.
