In a previous post (https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/cat-2020-its-20-20-game-sujoy-kumar-datta), I had explained about the VA section of the CAT in detail.
In this post, I will focus on the two other sections - Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation and Quantitative Ability
Section 2: The Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation section: How to excel in this? Lots of practice! Different LR sets have different approaches that work best. So is true for DI too sometimes. You will be able to apply the correct approach only if you have solved enough number of LR and DI sets.
Section 3: The Quantitative Ability section
Understand one thing:
You won’t be asked IITJEE level questions in the CAT
Hence, focus on the basic concepts rather than excruciatingly difficult problems. Also, avoid memorizing formula - it does not work. You would rarely get a question which you can solve simply by using some formula.
It is the application of basic concepts that CAT questions stress upon
The main areas in descending order of importance are:
- Arithmetic I - Percentages, Profit Loss Discount, Interest
- Arithmetic II - Ratios, Averages & Mixtures
- Arithmetic III - Rate & work, Speed & Distance
- Algebra I - Linear & Quadratic equations
- Algebra II - Functions & applications
- Algebra III - Series & sequences
- Geometry I - Lines, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Polygons, Circles
- Geometry II - 3-Dimensional Geometry
- Geometry III - Coordinate geometry, Trigonometry
- Number Properties I - Classification, Primes & Divisibility
- Number Properties II - HCF, LCM, Factors, Multiples & Factorials
- Number Properties III - Remainders, Units digits
- Combinatorics & Sets I - Venn Diagrams
- Combinatorics & Sets II - Permutation & Combination
- Combinatorics & Sets III - Probability
