Casual content is just another trend

Casual content is just another trend

1/5. Picture perfect content is a thing of the past

Following years of picture-perfect content and tonnes of trends, social media users are going back to their 2013 roots with more casual content. Following the popularity of photo-dumps, and Instagram’s decision to allow users to hide their likes, many have felt more comfortable posting content they want to share, rather than the content they feel compelled to share.?

Hot take: Let’s be real, how casual is casual content? Even photo-dumps are a carefully curated selection of pictures, they just offer a different vibe/aesthetic. Sure, users might feel less pressure following the option of hiding likes from the public, but the pressure to keep up a certain appearance online isn’t going away with the likes. As with anything, this is just a trend that will likely pass.

Content creators have changed the game with their ability to inspire, educate, and entertain their audiences. So, it’s unsurprising that users search for content to answer questions. This demand for creator content is set to completely change SEO, PR and digital marketing efforts. With all platforms making search functions more accessible to users, creator content will only become more popular as a search engine.

Hot take: Even with reports saying consumers are becoming more wary of creators, it’s impossible to deny that many will use creators as the first port of inspiration. Brands that fully embrace creator-led SEO will remain at the heart of community conversations, reaping the benefits across the search universe.

Redditors are continuing to protest a series of new company policies, including the decision to start charging third-party developers for access to its data starting in July. As of Monday, countless subreddits went private, effectively compromising Reddit’s main selling point—its sense of community. Redditors have also revealed that Reddit has begun forcing mods out of their subreddits in order to reopen them.?

Hot take: Reddit has essentially attacked its core pillar: its communities. While the company’s focus is currently on raising profit, it needs to find a way to do so without compromising its users. The impact the Reddit blackout will have on Reddit’s bottom line is yet to be determined, but the heavy retaliation from Reddit against the mods who helped create its bottom line will have major lasting consequences.
