" THE SKIN I'M IN VOL.1 MELANIN MELANIE"

Synopsis:

Melanie Hart, a wife and mother, who struggles with accepting, embracing, and loving herself due to her past trauma of being bullied because she's biracial. She tries to protect her daughter, Bailey, from experiencing the same hatred, abuse, and torment that she endured as she promotes acts of colorism. However, soon she realizes that racism comes in all forms and that she has been following the same principles as her abusers.

CASTING BREAKDOWN

Melanie Hart- Female, Biracial, 25-35 years old. A wife and mother, who struggles with accepting, embracing, and loving herself due to her past trauma of being bullied because she's biracial. She tries to protect her daughter, Bailey, from experiencing the same hatred, abuse, and torment that she endured as she promotes acts of colorism.

Cameron Hart- Male, Caucasian, 25-35 years old. Melanie’s Husband, who struggles with understanding Melanie’s acts of racism while protecting his daughter, Bailey. He loves Melanie but finds it difficult to love her due to her own insecurities.

Grace Oaks- Female, African American, 40-60 years old. The female postal worker who delivers mail to the Hart’s Family Home. We will soon discover that she has more to deliver than mail packages, as she unpacks much of her own baggage.

Ashlee Phillips- Female, African American, Dark Skin Late 20’s- Early 30’s, Bailey’s new babysitter. She is spunky, perky, and full of energy. She is very well spoken with a high-pitched voice. She is often labeled by the negative racial stereotypes as the “Black girl who talks white”

Lester Oaks- Male, African American, 40-60 Years old, Police Officer. Grace’s husband, who supports her as she faces her hidden past mistakes.

Jordan Oaks- Male, African American Male, 18-25yrs old, Athletic Build. Lester and Grace’s son who recently graduated High School. He is preparing to attend college. He is caught in the middle of the family drama, while facing his own dilemma.

Bailey Hart- Female, Biracial, 5-9 years old, Curly hair. The daughter of Melanie and Cameron Hart. She quickly absorbs the racist views of her mother. Even though has been taught that “light is right,” she wants to be accepted and make friends with her peers.

Shelby Gaines- Female, Caucasian, 5-9 years old, thick glasses, and black hair. The neighbor and best-friend of Baily Hart. She is very witty, chatty, and intelligent with an extensive imagination. However, she will soon be forced to make a heartbreaking decision

Casting Information

Filming will begin March 19th- 22nd, 2021 in Atlanta GA. This is a NON-UNION project but will be a paid stipend of $50.00. Actors must prepare a 2-3 min Monologue.  Selected actors will be scheduled for the first round of virtual auditions on October 10th and 24th, 2020. Actors must submit a clear professional headshot and resume' to [email protected]. PLEASE PUT THE ROLE THAT YOU ARE SUBMITTING FOR IN THE SUBJECT SECTION OF THE EMAIL.  ACTORS MUST BE AVAILABLE ON MARCH 19TH-22ND, 2021.
