Working in the world of eye care? Then you probably want to know whether your current salary is in line with the market average. We’ve mapped the market using data collected over the past 12 months to bring you average salaries for different role types from across the space.

Account Manager – ￡41,000 basic + ￡10,000 bonus

Territory Manager – ￡40,000 basic + ￡14,000 bonus

Regional Sales Manager – ￡56,000 basic + ￡20,000 bonus

National Sales Manager – ￡79,000 basic + ￡25,000 bonus

Business Development Manager – ￡50,000 basic + ￡20,000 bonus

Graduate – ￡23,000 basic + ￡8,000 bonus

What if you work in a more clinical role?

We’ve seen a continuous rise in the number of clinical professionals progressing into more commercial careers. There’s deeper awareness in the eye care space of the link between clinical applications and commercial success, so Clinical Applications Specialists are becoming increasingly involve in the sales side. They can expect to earn anywhere between ￡38,000 and ￡55,000 (with an average of ￡44,000). Bonus is a little different for these roles, we have seen CAS earn up to ￡10,000 but some clinical specialists still operate in a purely clinical support role with no commercial aspect, therefore not earning bonus.

What additional benefits can you expect to receive?

Typically, you can expect to receive a car benefit of some sort, with 75% of professionals in the eye care space getting either a car allowance or a company car. The car you receive depends on the level of role, with the quality and type increasing with seniority. It’s also quite common to receive private healthcare benefits and life insurance.

Less common benefits found in overall remuneration packages include the ability to buy and sell holiday, cycle to work schemes and lunch allowances.
