Cast-in-Place Concrete Walls for Extra Security

Microsoft recently contracted the construction of a massive 250,000?ft2 data center in Palmetto, Georgia. The project included constructing cast-in-place concrete walls surrounding the Microsoft Data Center site. North Georgia Concrete, the project sub-contractor, approached EFCO for a formwork solution that would allow for quickly and efficiently pouring concrete walls of various heights. EFCO Forming & Shoring Solutions proposed using gangs of the E-BEAM? & SUPER?STUD? system due to its flexibility, efficiency, and ability to cycle quickly, a critical factor considering the project’s tight deadline.

"One of the best formwork systems I have used in the past few years. If I had to do this project again, I would use EFCO’s E-BEAM & SUPER STUD system again with no second thoughts." Abel Vasquez, North Georgia Concrete

Adaptability of E-BEAM & SUPER STUD

The E-BEAM & SUPER?STUD system’s adaptability allowed for the formwork to be easily reconfigured to the heights required between 13' and 18'. North Georgia Concrete quickly assembled the 19' tall by 24' wide gangs and poured 90' of the wall at a time while simultaneously setting and tying the rebar for the next 90' of concrete. They would then ‘hopscotch’ the formwork from the front end of the previous gang to begin the new section. EFCO Rugged Taper Ties support up to a 30-kip load without sleeves, setting them apart from other systems. Greasing the tie before concrete placement and leveraging the tapered shaft design will make removal effortless the following day. This design feature enables greater tie spacing compared to ganged handset systems of comparable weight. Such flexibility in tie spacing proves advantageous, especially when precise architectural tie spacing and finish are needed.

The E-BEAM & SUPER STUD system is lightweight and ideal for smaller cranes. It can also support up to 30 kip per tie load.

Super Service at its Finest

EFCO’s Super Service paved the way for a successful project outcome with Sydney Dudley, EFCO’s local Field Supervisor; Jonathan Sims, the local Territory Manager; and Jack Barry, the local Territory Manager in-training, frequently meeting with the contractors to review project drawings, adjusting as necessary to accommodate needed modifications. They also supported the system’s erection by providing training and coaching and staying onsite for the initial pour to ensure all went as planned.

Why North Georgia Concrete Chose EFCO

North Georgia Concrete’s decision to partner with EFCO was driven by their formwork solutions' superior quality and efficiency. By choosing EFCO’s E-BEAM? & SUPER STUD? system, they not only met but exceeded their project goals, completing the construction two months ahead of schedule. EFCO’s Super Service helped North Georgia Concrete achieve the lowest in-place concrete cost for the project. As a first-time EFCO formwork user, they have now become advocates of using EFCO products in the future.
