Casio America, Inc. is stepping into the world of NFTs through a collaboration with Ethereum scaling developer Polygon Labs . The joint venture aims to bring Casio's iconic G-SHOCK timepieces into the NFT domain, utilizing Polygon's blockchain technology. The initiative kicks off with the launch of a community access pass collection in NFT format.

Unveiling the NFT Series

Starting September 23, G-SHOCK enthusiasts will have the opportunity to secure one of 15,000 NFT-based G-SHOCK creator passes. These unique passes grant access to a specialized Discord channel, exclusively developed for this initiative, in order to encourage community interaction among NFT holders. Casio clients who have previously registered for a CASIO ID on the brand's membership site will benefit from exclusive access from September 23rd to September 26th during the pre-distribution phase. After this initial stage, the NFTs will be available to the general public from September 26th to September 29th.

Focus on Community-Driven Creativity

Adopting a community-centric strategy, Casio is inviting users to contribute design concepts for the G-SHOCK creator pass and engage in a voting process to select its final look. The chosen design will feature as a variant of the NFT pass, underscoring the cooperative spirit of the project.

This foray into the NFT realm is consistent with Casio’s mission of fostering innovation and inclusivity. The brand views this project as a chance to capitalize on the long-lasting popularity of its G-SHOCK watch, a staple item since its 1983 introduction. Takahashi Oh, Senior General Manager of Timepieces at Casio, elucidated the rationale behind choosing Polygon, stating, “At its core, our virtual G-SHOCK was built to be accessible, innovative, and inclusive, meaning that user experience must be frictionless and simple. This is why Polygon was the most natural and logical choice for us.”

The primary objective of this partnership is to collaboratively evolve the G-SHOCK brand, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Casio’s NFT collection will be accessible to residents of multiple countries, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to worldwide accessibility and inclusiveness.

Casio Enters NFT Realm on Polygon

Casio is adding its name to an expanding list of prominent companies opting for Polygon as their go-to platform for NFT initiatives. Industry leaders like DraftKings, Adidas, and Starbucks have already initiated NFT projects on Polygon’s Ethereum scaling technology.

Although the NFT market has witnessed substantial growth, it also faces hurdles. Notably, recent weekly trading volumes of NFTs on the Polygon network have dipped to a month-low. This decline mirrors a wider downtrend in the NFT industry.
