Cash Only! Really?? ??

Today I’m sharing a surprising experience from last week when I met my friend for lunch at a local diner. To set the stage, neither of us had ever eaten at this establishment. We found it because my hair stylist (and her dad) love eating there.
I met my friend and we sat down and ordered. Our food was served promptly and we were busy talking before finally noticing the bill. As usual, I had very little cash (I just don’t carry it). So, I pulled out my credit card to pay and the waitress said, “We only take CASH!!!” What? Really? ??
“Was there a sign on the door?” I asked. “No.” “Was there a notice on the menu?” I asked. “No.”? So how were we supposed to know it was cash only? I have no idea! We were totally surprised and caught off guard.
First I started laughing, as the reality set in. I had all of $10 in my wallet for a $16 tab. Then I started to panic. I dumped out my coins as did my friend. I then excused myself to go to my car and get the little change purse ?? I have for meters. I brought it back to the table, dumped it out and between my friend and I, we scrounged up $6 in change.?? Plus a few dimes, nickels and pennies for the tip. (I felt bad about that. ??)
So what’s the moral of this story, (besides checking to make sure your next eating establishment takes credit or debit cards)? We need to be prepared for life’s unexpected moments.
For instance, several clients have been asking me about long term care insurance. What is it, how does it work, is it worth it? Can’t I just pay cash ??
for my healthcare?

Sure you can pay cash, as many women tend to think they have plenty saved to cover this probable expense. But a better way to be prepared is with some form of long term care insurance. (I don’t sell insurance so this is not a sales email. ??)
As I coach women preparing for retirement, I help them plan for and cover this expense. If you want to hear more about what I advocate for women planning for retirement, take a listen to my podcast here.
I know we can’t be prepared for every situation. But, as women, we certainly need to be prepared for our own financial future as much as possible. ??
My passion is working with women to define their retirement and prepare for it both financially and emotionally.
Until next time,
Linda
