Cash for Kids - Communicating our story

Cash for Kids - Communicating our story

As Charity Executive here at Radio Forth's Cash for Kids I manage all of our social media accounts. Ensuring that our supporters and beneficiaries are kept up to date with what's going on. I strongly believe that one of the most important parts of this for us, and for any charity, is to communicate with our supporters the difference their fundraising has made. We are so lucky here that we work so locally, and so we can tell our supporters exactly how their fundraising has made a difference, right on their doorstep. Our supporters are changing little lives all over Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife and Falkirk - let's celebrate that as much as we can!

Murray lieing in bed

I was delighted to receive this feedback from one of our beneficiaries describing the difference Radio Forth's Cash for Kids is making in our local community. Murray is 10 years old and lives in Prestonpans. He has severe additional needs as the result of a very rare chromosome disorder. Murray is unable to communicate, has no mobility and is double incontinent. His dad said...

"In October 2019 we were awarded with a 'Sleep System' for Murray. This has helped to keep Murray straight in bed. He has hip problems which are often painful, and curvature of the spine. Due to Murray’s additional needs he can’t correct his position himself and the sleep system helps reduce the damage done while he is in bed.

Murray is non-verbal so can’t say for himself, however we can tell by his expressions and improved sleep pattern that he is happy. For us as parents we feel relieved knowing we are doing the most we can to ensure any worsening of his posture is limited while he is in bed."

People don't realise the financial pressure that families face when they have a child with additional support needs, I'll admit, before this job I didn't realise either! Without charities like Cash for Kids these families would have nowhere else to turn. That's why we are so often referred to by parents as the 'light at the end of their tunnel'.

We couldn't help these children and families without the support of our local community, so if you've supported us in the past - thank you! If you want to find out more about supporting us this year or how to apply for funding please send me a message, I'd love to chat with you.
