Case Study: Top-ranking online insurance service aggregator optimises connectivity between offices using TTBS Smart VPN MPLS

Founded in July 2008 and headquartered in Gurgaon, the company is an Indian insurance aggregator and multinational FinTech organisation. It provides a secure portal with details of insurance policies from multiple enterprises and helps customers to compare alternatives to make smart risk management decisions. The website is a well-organised source of information for term-life insurance, health insurance, vehicle insurance, property insurance, travel insurance and pet insurance policies. It also helps its customers to invest in suitable retirement plans, tax saving schemes and savings accounts for minors. The company has simplified information around the plans customers intend to buy to bring transparency to the insurance domain. It aids in avoiding rampant mis-selling of policies. Having served millions of customers since its inception, it has a share of more than 90% in India’s digital insurance marketplace. The company connected some of its workplaces on a secure, private and high-speed network partitioned from the public internet. For the deployment of this solution, it contacted Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS), which has configured multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) virtual private networks (VPNs) for numerous banks and non-banking companies. TTBS’ experience at building any-to-any connectivity, adding auto-fail-over options, and the Service-Level Agreement (SLA)-backed services that guarantee high up-time were the key factors that made it the organisation’s choice to deploy their VPN solution.

Business Challenge:??Operating from multiple work locations, the company wanted to ensure that its employees communicate, share data and access enterprise applications on a secure network. It also sought private connectivity to the cloud platforms the teams had been using. The management wanted to connect all other offices with the Jharsuguda (Odisha) location hub. Here are the main concerns that prompted the company to upgrade from a primary internet connection to MPLS for networking:

  • Downtime issues often affected access to the data centre that was serving different offices.
  • Whenever there was an outage, the link switchover to the backup connectivity service had to be activated manually.
  • Unpredictable jitter and latency led to poor experience with voice and video apps.

In addition, it was hard to manage the network and monitor its performance. The company wanted a cost-effectively scalable solution with reliable up-time and Quality of Service (QoS) attributes to prioritize bandwidth.

TTBS Solution:?TTBS offered its Smart VPN solution to configure the company’s network on MPLS using a fully-meshed topology. We also added auto-fail-over capabilities on the VPN through IPSec tunnel-ling. Our solution architect built the last mile connectivity on External Border Gateway Protocol (EBGP) that links autonomous systems on a network. TTBS managed the entire service. All data accessed and exchanged by the company’s employees on this private network was encrypted and safe from threats. The users could now collaborate more effectively and access cloud applications securely. The upgrade to MPLS based Smart VPN enabled the company to have the network architecture it needed for speedy, secure and focused routine operations:

  • TTBS designed a reliable network for the company with SLA-backed up-time of 99.5% and automatic fail-over options on the secondary link in case of an outage on the mainline.
  • As per our SLA norms, we will address all network issues within the documented mean-time-resolve; else, the customer is eligible for certain service credits.
  • We provided the MPLS network service with 100% QoS so that the management could decide which enterprise applications would get more priority for seamless performance during network congestion.
  • QoS based bandwidth allocation helped the users to counter the problems of excessive jitters and latency for critical voice and video-based communication.

The company’s IT team could check network performance on a simple-to-use web portal. As its sole service provider, TTBS also monitors the same to ensure that the managed service always fuels the operations efficiently.
