CCJK has implemented a solution dedicated to the translation of a technical document for Daimler – One of the Top 100 automotive manufacturers in the world.

THE SITUATION

To push their Chinese market, Daimler made a plan to localize their automotive technical documents into Chinese so as the Chinese company could have a better understanding of the projects. And after detailed research and data analysis, they assign this translation job to an experienced language service provider. ?

THE CHALLENGE

1. The source files are PDF with different chart, technical data drawing, as well as a mix of German and English. So there are difficulties to upload in CAT tools without pre-treatment. For converting the source files in word file, there are also risk of a messy layout and other problems like missed words and wrong words.

2. Project deadline was urgent.

3. Client did not offer the whole terminology. For this project to work with different linguists, keeping consistency is one of the problems.

THE SOULTION

1. Thanks to the great support from our DTP team, pre-treatment is smoothing proceeding with experienced DTP colleagues. Also, German and English source files are divided successfully with word files ready. Format of the word files are also arranged well to upload into Trados without other questions.

2. Query log was established to connect with translators and clients, questions were soon solved out to save time.

3. We decided to deliver partially, it could let client confirm the translation style before the job was done, and the translation and editing job could be carried out at the same time smoothly.

4. The project was arranged to three PM and at least six linguists to go with translation and proofreading process. With up to 5-year experience, both PM and linguists work closely on integrated terminology establishment, style guide making and translation memory update. Quality is strictly ensured in the whole process.

5. After translation, we also have linguists to have a final review on the PDF target files to make sure to meet all requested instructions.

THE RESULT

The whole process of this project went smoothly. The translation and glossary were delivered to client on time, and our client is quite satisfied with our services.
