A case study: Lime plaster to correct condensation and black mould

A case study: Lime plaster to correct condensation and black mould

Location:

Buckingham

Type of property:

Semi-detached brick-built town house circa 1860

Services:

  • Free damp survey
  • Plastering
  • Lime plastering

Problem:

External ground level to this property was high in relation to internal floor levels. It was noted that localised re-pointing of masonry was required between the chimney flus and there was evidence of spalling brickwork at isolated intervals.

Internally, a conductivity moisture meter recorded positive readings rising from base level to ceiling height, likely the result of a lack of an effective damp proof course in the wall construction combined with penetrating dampness from faults in the masonry referred to above. Black mould staining was visible to the existing plaster, indicative of condensation. ?

What was done:

We recommended the replacement of existing plaster with a waterproof cementitious render system from base level to ceiling height in one area and the application of Lime Green Ultra lime plaster to the inset fireplace of the reception room.

Materials used:

  • Waterproof plaster
  • Lime Green Ultra lime plaster
  • Skip

The Plaster is guaranteed for TEN YEARS.
