Case Study: Implementation of an Integrated RIS/PACS Solution at CERIM by NEXTBEHEALTHCARE
Background:
The Center for Medical Imaging and Radiology (CERIM) based in Hyon, in the Mons region (Belgium) , wanted to improve its medical data management system and service billing. Before NEXTBEHEALTHCARE's intervention, a specialist in healthcare IT solutions, the center had several non-integrated solutions and paper billing, which took more than a month to be paid by insurance organizations.
Proposed Solution:
NEXTBEHEALTHCARE proposed the implementation of its FIRERIS/FIREPACS solution, an integrated medical data management and electronic billing system. This solution allows for encoding the information only once, starting with the automatic reading of patient data thanks to a reader compatible with the electronic identity card (eID). The secretary also scans the prescription, making the process 100% paperless.
Solution Functioning:
Once patient data and prescriptions are digitized, the working list is updated on the various connected modalities (ultrasound, mammography, radiology table, densitometer, or dental panoramic). The technician carries out the various examinations, then the radiologist writes the report with the help of the dictaphone and the Dragon Medical automatic transcription program
while viewing the medical images using the FIREVIEWER PRO viewer.
The final report, accompanied by images, is sent to prescribing physicians via the secure eHEALTHBOX messaging system and made available to patients on the Walloon Health Network, accessible with Itsme. Electronic billing is communicated directly to insurance organizations, and insurability control is ensured via the MyCareNet platform.

Results:
Thanks to the implementation of the FIRERIS/FIREPACS solution, CERIM has benefited from an integrated service where information is encoded only once, thus optimizing work processes and reducing errors. Electronic billing has accelerated payment by insurance organizations, going from over a month to a significantly reduced maximum of 2 working days.
The transition to a 100% paperless process has also had a positive impact on the environment and the speed of access to medical information for prescribers and patients.
Conclusion:
NEXTBEHEALTHCARE's FIRERIS/FIREPACS solution has allowed CERIM to modernize and integrate its medical data management and billing processes while improving the patient and healthcare professional experience.
