Case Study: How We Implement Elegance To Salmon Packaging
Victoria Island Smokehouse (Called The Smokehouse hereafter)?is a European family-based fine-smoked fish provider throughout Asia.
Cristian Giancaterino, the founder of The Smokehouse, is a chef with over 20 years of experience and turning into a business person. He has always been fascinated with taking the purest freshest raw ingredients and turning them into something special. He aims to produce small batches of the highest quality smoked fish worldwide.?
Their products include the finest quality salmon, other fish products, and the most expensive ingredient, Caviar.
Such a premium product line surely deserved packaging that complemented its elegance.
We were lucky enough to meet Shuan, the designer of the Victorian Island House, to start making such a luxury salmon box for them.
The Challenge?
The Smokehouse provides the finest salmon with its premium line of products and excellent customer service. Now that their "Royal BELKAN" and " Royal Fillet" were ready to be sold, they required a box that would create a sense of royalty and reinforce their special salmon product.?
The Smokehouse believes that customer experience and quality of products are the two main pillars of creating a pleasant tasting experience. So they needed a package that captured the value of these two elements and one that conveyed the passion of the brand.
In terms of weight, structure, and overall feel, the packaging should demonstrate flexibility, elegance, and class while keeping the budget to a minimum.?
The second challenge might be quantity. As a retail business, they don't want to produce too many boxes at a time to fill up their storage room.?
For this, they need someone who is an expert in luxury packaging, can turn the premium concept into a real box, and can also accept the small quantity order.
Ketsana can meet those 2requirements, so we are shortly in charge of this challenge to make the premium lid and base boxes for those 2 products.
The Solution
The original design of the "Royal Belken" and "Royal Fillet" was simply a cardboard box with an open window and a silver and gold hot stamping on the logo. The owner wants to have something with a more "textured" feeling to it. He also wants something thicker to feel like it has more prestige. Our team communicated with Shaun and provided 2 options:
1. Use greyboard + art paper to enhance the luxurious feeling
2. Apply the silver/gold hot stamping "cross" pattern on the surface to add texture.
In addition to the proposal, we acted immediately to make a few sets of white samples so they could try the size and the structure.?
The owner saw the sample and confirmed the structure. And we were required to move to the pre-production sample, also known as the production-grade sample.
A production-grade sample is manufactured according to unique designs and choices regarding materials and printing. This type of sample offers you an exact picture of what the product will look like in full production. This is an excellent method to assess production quality before deciding whether to accept a consignment.

When they got the printed sample, they were satisfied with the outcome as it met their expectations, and placed the first order with us.
The result
Shaun and the team were thrilled with the first order's outcomes and discovered that their customers felt the same way about the packing as they did.
By combining the silver/gold hot stamping logo with the salmon texture design, the company's values were communicated to the target audience effectively.
Since their clientele received their initial package run throughout the stores, they have placed more orders. They are satisfied with the service and results they have received thus far.
