Case Study on Gaming Industries working with AWS

Case Study on Gaming Industries working with AWS

Cloud Computing is one of the necessary skills in today's world. Most of the companies, no matter they belong to which domain, use cloud technology to improve performance and give the best experience to their clients.

Why Companies are using Cloud?

Many companies are adopted cloud computing in their operations in the past few years.

You might think that we can set up the server in own local resources but believe me set up your own server in the cloud is far better than setup the server in your own local resources. For justifying this statement, let's go through the below points...

  • Reduced Cost - Establishing and running a data center is expensive. You need to purchase the right equipment and hire technicians to install and manage the center. Using Cloud, you only need to focus on your product/software. You only pay for the resources you use.
  • No need for a backup plan - Traditional computing systems require back up plans especially for data storage. A disaster can lead to permanent data loss if no backup storage is in place. And data is the most important factor for growing the business. When you store your data on the cloud, you don't need to worry about this. It is good to have a disaster recovery plan when you store data on the cloud and you don't need to worry about backup the data.
  • Flexibility - Working on cloud gives you more flexibility, you can access the server from anywhere having internet connection. You can reduce the number of workstations in your office and allow some employees to work from home to save costs further.
  • Scalability - In the initial days of your startup, you don't have any idea that your product is booming or not. At this time, buying compute resources is never a better option. Cloud gives you the facility to scale the number of servers up and down in a single click. You can get additional storage space or features whenever you need them.

Now, let's talk about AWS cloud provider...

On the basis of the recent surveys, AWS is one of the biggest cloud providers across the globe.

As of 2020, AWS comprises more than 175 products and services including computing, storage, networking, database, analytics, application services, deployment, management, mobile, developer tools, and tools for the Internet of Things. This makes AWS far ahead of its competitors like GCP and Azure.

Let's see the case study of GAMES companies using AWS GAME TECH...

Multiple Games Companies are shifted in the AWS cloud to improve their overall performance and increase their productivity with on-demand premises.

  • Supercell - Supercell is a Finland-based mobile game developer with hundreds of millions of active players and five globally-successful titles, including Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars, and Hay Day. Supercell's unique culture drives small teams, with only three server engineers, to develop games with independence and agility.

Yeah, you heard right... Clash of Clans, one of the most successful Games, is running on AWS Cloud. To move faster and scale games with minimal operational overhead, SuperCell migrated it's 300 databases to Amazon Aurora service. They also use Amazon Kinesis, and Amazon CloudFront, services to improve their games based on player telemetry data

They say that AWS is most useful for them to scale games quickly when needed. AWS helps them to execute their processes like updates faster. They mention that in starting, AWS is really so much helpful in increasing their productivity after their games become successful. For setting up their own datacenter, you need a big team and a lot of investment. They say that they don't believe that it possible without the AWS.

  • Warner Bros. - WB Games, the video game division of Warner Bros., uses data to help inform the creative process of developing its games. Using Amazon Web Services (AWS) solutions such as Amazon SageMakerAmazon Redshift, and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), WB Games is able to capture, ingest, analyze, and action insights to help developers become more opportunistic and agile with their approach to storytelling. DC Comics, Game of Thrones, and Mortal Kombat are just a few of the globally recognizable franchises that WB has adapted across every medium from movies to video games.

They collect the data and in AWS S3, then they use Amazon SageMaker service to train the machine to take the action, and then they according to live data adjustment, they take little decision. In this way, they make our gaming experience so much realistic. These all the tasks are fully automated that there is no need of any human interaction.

  • Fortnite - One of the world’s most popular video games, runs nearly entirely on AWS, including its worldwide game-server fleet, backend services, databases, websites, and analytics pipeline and processing systems. Epic Games uses AWS to deliver Fortnite to more than 300 million players around the world, support growth of more than 100 times in just 12 months, and perform analysis that helps it improve the game. With over 350 million users, they provide smooth gaming experience, and they say it is only possible with AWS cloud.

These are some top games that use AWS services, if you go and check their website, you find a lot of games industry using the AWS services.

Let's go and search for your own favourite game and check which cloud provider they are using to provide the smooth gaming experience and comment below...??

Happy Learning!!
