Case Study: Empowering EV Charging in Romania with POWEROAD's Energy Solution

  • Background:

The user's main business offers household & commercial charging piles for parking lots, office buildings, and shopping malls to reduce the local carbon footprint by integrating charging solutions with photovoltaic systems. Currently, their office locations are equipped with 50kW DC charging piles and 11pcs of 22kW AC charging piles for employees' electric vehicles (EV). Additionally, since the local grid can only provide 35kW of electricity, 100kWp PV panels and 100kW inverters were also installed for office buildings and EV charging.

  • Challenge:

1. Grid Limitations: Increasing energy demand from EV chargers and office operations strained the existing grid infrastructure.?

2. Fluctuating Solar Energy Availability: Solar production varies throughout the day, for example, when sunshine is rare, the grid cannot fulfill demand above 35kW, so the user required?a reliable solution to store and balance energy.?

3. Energy Costs: Rising electricity prices and demand charges necessitated cost-saving measures.

Therefore, the?user?expressed a desire to find the best possible supplier through the tender process to install an approximately 100kW/200kWh outdoor energy storage system for their workplace, while also hoping to apply for EU subsidies to support the project.

  • Solution:

To address these challenges, POWEROAD proposed FLEX 215 Air Cooling Outdoor Cabinet ESS with a capacity of 215kWh and a 100kW Delta PCS.?This system was chosen for its advanced features and adaptability:

? Solar Self-Consumption: Stores excess solar energy for use during low production periods, maximizing renewable energy utilization.

? Demand Response: Manages peak loads, reducing demand charges and ensuring stable energy supply.

? Pre-Assembled and Pre-Commissioned Design: Simplifies installation and operation, saving time and labor costs.

By integrating the FLEX 215 ESS with PV and EV charging solutions, POWEROAD enabled the user?to:

? Increase self-sufficiency, reducing reliance on grid electricity.

? Lower demand charges, resulting in significant cost savings.

? Earn council rewards for implementing green energy solutions.


With POWEROAD's FLEX 215 solution, the user achieved a sustainable energy model that balances supply and demand, reduces their carbon footprint, and meets subsidy requirements. This project showcases the potential of integrated solar, EV charging, and energy storage to drive Europe's transition to a greener future.
