Case Study: Bluff Terminal – Fire Protection Upgrade

Recently DIALOG Fitzroy embarked on the Fuel Terminal Fire Protection System Upgrade project for our client at their fuel terminal in Bluff, New Zealand.

This project required careful coordination to ensure there was no disruption to regular terminal operations.?Our experience of similar successful work for the same client was extremely valuable and allowed us to plan and develop our workpacks with certainty.

In the understanding that construction activity on site is a hinderance to normal operations, our team looked to save time at every opportunity.?As an example, in one instance we elected to utilise a 100T crane to lift a boom over the pipe racks in order to install tank brackets for the outer spray rings of tanks T1 and T2.?This was planned to eliminate the use of scaffolding around the tanks and proved to be very successful, saving both considerable time and expense for our client.?

The DIALOG Fitzroy scope of works for this project included:

  • Fabrication and installation of all pipe and fittings
  • Supply and installation of equipment, valves, monitors, hydrant connections, tank cooling ring
  • Pipe supports and structural steel access platforms
  • Placement and lifting of firewater pump containers
  • Inspection, testing and quality assurance
  • Commission of piping and all relevant works

This was a great project for DIALOG Fitzroy and on the strength of our efforts on this scope we were awarded further and following work on the same site.
