Arm Global Solutions and A-Bay Engineers started working together in September 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic while ARM was experiencing a shortage in workers.? During this time, A-Bay worked closely with managerial staff to determine what ARM’s biggest pain points were and how A-Bay’s expertise could help ARM to reach their short and long term goals and the needs of their customers.??

ARM, which started in 1988, has developed into the largest returnable packaging business in North America, helping companies such as DuPont, Carrier & Klockner minimize their carbon footprint. ARM’s focus on sustainability fits nicely with A-Bay’s vision to build a more resourceful and resilient tomorrow.

Problem:? Transparency of performance across ARM and with key clients was lacking or suboptimal.? Older excel based tools that utilized operational data had been sitting idle and speculation / guessing had started creeping in.??

Using A-Bay Engineers system of continuous improvement, a thorough understanding of ARM’s existing processes and procedures was a key first step.? A-Bay was able to prioritize initiatives that would drive operational efficiencies while reducing time and effort of management to work in the business, enabling them to work on the business.??

Working to show off ARM’s excellent performance for a key client, A-Bay developed intuitive, real-time, and customizable dashboards.? Automated and streamlined systems were developed to reduce touchpoints and opportunity for errors, while reducing time required performing analysis. The requirements of ISO 14001 reporting for this client have now become easy to meet and more importantly, easy to track progress and performance closely.??

The next initiative prioritized was the creation of upper management dashboards using the functionality of A-Bay’s tools that provide one holistic view.? The ability to move between weekly, monthly and year to date performance in one dashboard was created. Automated emails were generated for specific groups weekly to provide a quick snapshot of performance, build buy-in and track goal progress in real time.

“These tools give us a competitive advantage,” said ARM Vice President Ron Auberger. Improved transparency throughout the organization was realized. Facility managers are now able to have discussions with their operational staff about performance using real time data to build accountability. Using these interactive dashboards, ARM took the initiative to provide innovative service to their clients, above and beyond what was required of them.
