Classification of band saw blades:

Based on the different tempering, band saw blades can be divided into three types: 1. Top forging/split-tooth band saws made of CV steel (chrome vanadium steel) 2. Tungsten chrome-cobalt alloy band saws 3. Carbide band saws

Band saw tooth shape classification:

The following three tooth shapes are usually used on band saw blades: Sharp teeth, arc teeth, PCD teeth.

Electroplated CBN? grinding wheel usually used for sharpening band saw. Electroplated CBN grinding wheels are used to grind high alloy band saws. Electroplated CBN grinding wheels are commonly used to process band saw brands, including Wood-Mizer, Timberwolf, Simonds, Kasco, Morse, Lenox, etc.

How to sharpening? band saw blade teeth

Band saws are very sensitive during use and can break easily if not properly maintained. The reason for this is that the band saws are subjected to constant alternating bending, which can cause filiform cracks to form in the tooth grooves, the areas subject to the greatest tensile stress. If the band saw is not resharpened in time, these cracks will expand and lead to breakage. To prevent this from happening, the entire tooth surface must be reground regularly on chrome-vanadium steel and stellite band saws.

However, if the tooth surface is not ground properly, abnormal wear marks and grooves will also be produced; excessive grinding will harden the tooth grooves.

In order for the band saw to not get stuck during use, it needs to protrude outward on one side. Therefore, band saws made of chrome vanadium steel must be slid or forged and leveled after the tooth surface is ground. In contrast, tungsten stellite band saws and carbide band saws require side grinding of the teeth.

Sharpening carbide band saws

For carbide band saws, only the carbide tooth tips need to be ground, following this sequence: first the tooth faces, then the tooth flanks, and finally the tooth tips.

Sharpening – Side Grinding of Band Saws For band saws with stellite teeth and carbide-tipped saws, side grinding must be performed after grinding the tooth surface. Regardless of the material of the saw blade your band saw is equipped with, using the right sharpening machine is the right choice for efficient side grinding of the teeth.

There are four possible options for side grinding: · Downward grinding, retracting, fast return · Downward grinding, no retracting and return · Downward grinding, feed and return · Reciprocating grinding according to the feed amount and grinding stroke set by the user
