C.A.S.E. The Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electrified mobility ecosystem

I came out with the acronym C.A.S.E. in 2014, as a way to remember the key trends of the auto industry and to encapsulate the "Car of the future" concept. Since then the term CASE has been widely used by the automotive community.

AlixPartners continues to actively monitor and participate to the evolution of technology, product/services, regulatory framework and customer preferences, aiming at separating hype from reality.

The directions of the evolution are not unequivocal and we will see different choices and solutions coexisting for few decades. Also the speed of evolution is going to be uneven across countries, sectors and customer segments. Interpreting these trends, choosing the the right solutions and timing, but also executing in a fast and agile way, will ultimately determine the success of both the incumbent and new OEMs and suppliers.

Key highlights:

- Various players beyond traditional auto suppliers and OEMs are involved in the landscape. New players include fleet management, internet and software players.

- Lower raw material costs of EV battery packs and the resultant electrification of cars is expected to have significant impact on parts associated with traditional ICE powertrain systems

- Supplier landscape that supports electrical systems such as sensors, telematics, infotainment systems, AV/ADS etc. is expected to experience a surge in demand

- On a long term horizon, fully autonomous vehicles could also have a radical impact on suppliers by eliminating the need for traditionally critical components such as steering systems and pedals
