Cascade Bicycle Club - Why I Love Seattle
Are you new to Seattle and looking to meet great people? Do you want to experience the beauty of the Pacific Northwest - our oceans, lakes, mountains, idyllic small towns, and our fantastic city with an intimacy only a bike ride can provide? Do you want to do it with fantastic ride leaders who know the routes like the back of their hands and ensure that we all ride safely and get home in time for dinner? Then check out Cascade Bicycle Club at cascade.org. They offer free rides almost any day and time of the week, and membership is not expensive.
I got to know Cascade a few years ago when I was looking for a hobby to take me away from the grind of work and meet more people. I hadn't bicycled in years because I was afraid and hadn't found a way to participate safely. My first rides were around Mercer Island. Multiple ride leaders guided us, so I felt safe, and we went slowly. If riders needed extra time on the hills, we waited for them. I was immediately hooked. Mercer Island is still one of my favorite rides.
Fast-forward to yesterday: I finished a century ride (100 miles) with a climb of 5,500 feet with several other riders. It's hard to describe what I saw. We really saw it all - the most beautiful parts of Seattle in a single day. That was my last long training ride, and I am ready for the Seattle to Vancouver Ride (RSVP) next weekend.
Please let me know in the comments if you will be at RSVP, and we can ride together.
