We speak to Geo Nicolaidis about his dual role as DevOps Manager and the Head of Deriv Cyprus, his management style, and the benefits of working at Deriv.
Hi Geo! Would you mind sharing a bit about your dual role at Deriv?
Hi there! Sure, I am the Head of Deriv Cyprus, which is operations-based, and also the DevOps Manager at Deriv, which is more tech-focused. My role as the Head of Office is to help the team to reach their full potential. I follow the servant leadership management style, which is prevalent in Deriv, where leaders work together with the team, growing together to provide help whenever needed.
As DevOps Manager, I lead a team of highly skilled individuals in software development and IT operations. Our work is exciting, as we work and experiment with different technologies and collaborate with various teams.?
As a leader, I always aim to be there for others. I solve critical problems and make decisions to help the team move forward. I love the satisfaction and gratification that comes from solving problems.
That’s great. How would you describe Deriv’s work culture?
The ambiance at Deriv is warm and welcoming. I’m lucky to work in a positive environment with wonderful people who are like-minded and want to achieve great things together. There might be some other companies where you’ll do the same thing day in and day out, week after week, and eventually, burn out. However, at Deriv, there’s no monotony.?
I work on several projects of varying nature. We have different programmes for our partners, global events, ongoing improvements on existing products, and the launch of new products and services. They lead to stimulating tasks which keep our learning process continuous.?
Another refreshing fact is how approachable Deriv leaders are. I do not hesitate to speak up, ask questions, or offer suggestions to C-level management. They are always willing to listen and answer my questions.?
Interesting! Could you tell us more about Deriv Cyprus?
We opened our Limassol office in 2020 as a hub for research, development, and innovation for MetaTrader 5, one of the world’s most popular CFD trading platform. Here, we develop and implement new asset classes for our MT5 users.?
It’s exciting to work with a wide variety of innovative technologies. I’m inspired by how people work together as a team to solve problems, make improvements to our trading platforms, and become better individuals.?

The programme is available to all Deriv employees after their first year of tenure. It works in a way where Deriv supports a portion of its employee’s tuition or course fee with terms and conditions applied. So employees can work while continuing their studies and get certified in their desired field. It’s unique because most companies only offer educational assistance to improve the employees’ current role in the company.?
We help our team members reskill and upskill for their current or future roles through our educational assistance programme. If you are interested in moving to another department within Deriv, you can start a course, retool your skills, and prepare by studying after working hours.?
Does that mean the educational benefit helps with internal movements within departments?
Yes, Deriv offers the opportunity to move between teams and departments. For example, let’s say you are currently working as a Customer Support Executive and have an interest in the Marketing department. You can use the educational assistance programme by taking marketing courses or certifications to prepare for the marketing role.
If your interest lies in a position outside of your current role, the educational assistance programme will act as a stepping stone to achieving your career goals. You can grow professionally and also personally by taking advantage of the programme.?
