Waymo ’s self-driving #robotaxis in Atlanta:

Waymo’s ,an Alphabet company, has begun testing its robotaxis in Atlanta. This adds another city to its testing and deployment domain. Initially, Waymo will deploy cars driven manually by humans to gather mapping data and get familiar with Atlanta’s environment. Later, they aim to test fully autonomous robotaxis in Atlanta without safety drivers.

“We’re laser focused on scaling our fully autonomous Waymo One ride-hailing service in the cities where we operate, as we continue safely and responsibly advancing our autonomous technology through road trips to various cities around the U.S.,” said Sandy B. told TechCrunch (t.ly/hgbbl)

As Georgia’s Regulation: G of autonomous vehicles is minimal, allowing Waymo to potentially operate fully autonomous vehicles on the streets without safety drivers, provided they meet minimal risk conditions.

Recent Wins: Waymo has recently launched paid robotaxi rides in Los Angeles and expanded its operations to other cities. They are also about to start testing driverless passenger vehicles on highways in Phoenix later in April.

Self-Driving Taxi Tests Approved in NYC, but Human Operators Required.

New regulations in New York City allow self-driving vehicles to be tested with a human operator present. Unlike cities like San Francisco and Phoenix, where driverless taxis operate commercially, New York requires a safety driver in the vehicle.Deputy Mayor Meera Joshi stated that autonomous vehicles are already in operation nationwide and that careful regulation is essential for their integration in complex cities like New York. Applicants for permits must demonstrate testing experience and provide details on previous testing locations and any incidents.“We are doing our due diligence to get ahead of the AV revolution.
