Carrying On.

A personal post. I feel, similarly to most of you, outrage and sorrow at what is going on in Eastern Europe. I feel bad for those people in Russia who are suffering from the actions of their rulers. I feel worse for those people in Ukraine under indiscriminate bombardment from invading Russian forces.
When this is happening, it seems wrong to "just carry on". Working for a truly international organisation means that I have colleagues in Russia, in Ukraine and in those countries currently accepting refugees from Ukraine. IDC is working to help all affected employees and donating to the relevant aid agencies, for which I am grateful. I know many of my colleagues are far more personally affected than I am, watching from the UK.
When I do what we all must, which is carry on, do my best to help those who need it, and try to maintain a sense of normalcy, it is with these people in my heart. Even as we carry on, they are not forgotten.
We may only be able to donate money and press our political representatives to do more, for those in danger and displaced, but it is worth doing. I hope through the strength and resilience of the Ukrainian people, and the actions of those throughout the world who see the truth of what is being perpetrated right now, that the war being waged on Ukraine will end soon and we can look to rebuild, together.
