Carry Your Light Along

While the sun played hide and seek in the Chennai skies, I was reminded of a fascinating Sufi tale that captures an interesting conversation between the sun and a cave. Here it goes :

One day the sun and a cave were having a conversation. During the chat, the sun found it difficult to understand what the cave meant by “dark, closed and dank”. And the cave was equally confused by the sun’s notion of “light, open and clear”. So, they decided to change places to experience their perspectives.

The cave went up into the sky and took the sun’s view and remarked: “Ah, I see, this is remarkable and vast - truly marvelous!”

Now, it’s the turn of the sun to visit the cave. So the cave said “Now come down and see where I have been living”?

The sun went down to the cave and after a while said, “Gee, I don’t see any difference.”?

?You got it? The sun took along its light wherever it went, and therefore could not see the darkness in the cave. Simple! Carry your light along and you could see no darkness.
