To Carry the Weight
Change is to carry a heavy weight: we can theorise, conceptualise, plan and direct, but none of that activity breaks a sweat and forms a blister. To drive change comes at a cost, and someone will have to bear it. The truth of this does not make it palatable: i am often asked for answers, as if an ‘answer’ is the hard part, but it isn’t. Any answer on ‘how to drive change’ provides only the context, the framework. It does not carry the weight.
So there must be a humility in change: a recognition that the loading is unequal, and that if i am not carrying it, then you are. And if we cannot carry the weight together, then perhaps we can treat those that do with kindness.

5 年I like this a lot Julian Stodd. I’ve said for a long time that change initiates don’t fail because of a lack of ?processes. But rather, a lack of human compassion. Your reflection is spot on. Thank you for sharing it.?
