LTE Long term evolution one of the smartest concept that anyone can visualize is Carrier Aggregation

Definition: As the name suggest :)

So understanding from the different definition combining together for the "Carrier " is known as Carrier Aggregation.

How it will be done ?

A little value addition to the information

Contiguous

Now as per the definition carrier touching boundaries, but is there any limit or gap that has to be there between two, the answer is YES , then How much --> 300 kHz between each carrier .

Non Contiguous : Obviously not touching boundary different EARFCN, different Band , different Duplex (FDD/TDD)

There are different BW Classes explained by 3gpp

Lab Setup

For UE specific testing engineers first most important is lab setup.e.g. taken from official website https://www.rohde-schwarz.com/ca/video/

Carrier Aggregation MAC -CE

activation can be seen on left, Secondary component carrier configuration index top right.

if deactivation to CA aggregation is required we can deactivate with SCC Deactivate MAC (left bottom 3rd tab)

Welcome to the World of Log Analysis
  1. Does UE support Carrier aggregation ? How and where to check?

Check UE capability information

  • UE Category Release 12
  • Feature Group Indicator :111,112,113 (specific to CA)
  • LTE CA Band combinations supported by UE with associated BW classes.

2. How UE will know Scell addition happend ? What all are Scell parameters?

Check RRC Connection Reconfiguration
