Carpet and its advantages
In our February issue of our in.form newsletter, we would like to dispel some of the prejudices about carpeting and explain the advantages. We often experience that there is a certain amount of uncertainty when it comes to the topic of carpets. Many people wrongly associate carpet with negative prejudices - especially with regard to allergies and cleaning.
Carpet - 5 advantages
1 Carpet is not for allergy sufferers? Quite the opposite!
Carpet binds around 50% of fine dust and pollen from the air and holds it until the next vacuuming. This means that - unlike hard floors - no dirt particles are whirled up when crossing the room, and the room air remains cleaner. This is confirmed by a study commissioned by the German Allergy and Asthma Association (DAAB). It was able to prove that the concentration of fine dust in rooms with carpeting is more than half that in rooms with hard floor coverings.
This is a particular advantage for asthmatics and allergy sufferers. And house dust mites? They need a humid environment and are more prevalent in beds, but hardly found in carpets.
All Halbmond carpets are naturally free of allergens and irritants.
2 Easy cleaning without wiping - that saves time!
The regular cleaning of carpets by vacuuming with a brush vacuum cleaner is inexpensive and saves a lot of time compared to wiping, especially for large areas, e.g. in hotels. Vacuuming removes the dust that gets into the carpet from the air in the room or from foot traffic. Depending on the usage, weekly vacuuming may be sufficient. Please note the cleaning recommendation for the selected product for a particularly long preservation of the appearance!
3 Carpet increases the room temperature perceptibly and measurably - this lowers heating costs!
Carpet insulates much better than hard flooring. This means that less heating is needed to achieve the same room temperature. It also prevents the feet from cooling down and noticeably increases the sense of well-being. The room feels 2°C warmer and so the heating can be turned down without loss of comfort. The more mass the pile and back have, the higher the heat-insulating effect of the floor covering. In turn, a carpet with low thermal resistance is suitable for laying over underfloor heating.
4 Carpet provides a calm atmosphere - for you and your neighbours!
Carpeting can significantly reduce the sound of footsteps as well as conversations or music. The thicker the carpet backing, the greater the acoustic effectiveness. This can mean a significant comfort advantage in open-plan offices, conference rooms and hotels, as the private and working atmosphere is decisively improved!

Noise not only impairs concentration, but can also reduce performance in the long term. According to the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, noise exposure should therefore not exceed the average value of 55 db. It should be noted, however, that an active photocopier, for example, can reach a volume of 70 db, or a computer fan 30 db. Smooth, hard materials reflect this sound and keep it in the room like an echo. This makes speech intelligibility and listening more strenuous.
Carpeting makes a decisive contribution to significantly reducing the sound level as well as the reverberation times (sound duration) of such disturbing noises. The textile floor coverings absorb the sound and interrupt the vibrations that can propagate it in the room. The most effective way to do this is with the special acoustic backing Felt 1000, which achieves a reduction in impact sound of up to 31 db, depending on the object's condition. At the same time, it increases speech intelligibility in the room by 80 percent.
5 Ergonomic value
Joggers know the advantages of forest floors over asphalt. This special tread elasticity also creates carpeting and thus demonstrably protects the joints from wearing out. Services and administrative activities require a lot of mobility. Today, more and more people spend their working hours standing or walking - for example in banks, open-plan offices, in sales or in the gastronomy sector.
This places high demands on the musculoskeletal system and thus on ergonomic room concepts. Studies show that textile floor coverings are generally better suited for this than hard flooring. Carpet systematically absorbs the pressure and impact forces that act on the body during movement. Above all, the vertical impact load that occurs every time a person steps on it is considerably reduced - by up to 35 percent, depending on the carpet quality.
For facilities where older and less mobile people live, carpet also offers a safety advantage, because it is the only floor covering that is guaranteed to be slip-resistant in dry and wet conditions! And anyone who falls anyway lands even softer...
... and on top of that, carpeting simply looks good! Carpet can create unique room concepts. You can find all our collections on our website.
