Carpe Diem
A year ago, I was rushed to the emergency room at 2 AM. I woke up in a cold sweat and felt like my heart was exploding. Laying there I kept on thinking that this is not the way I wanted to leave this world. I ended up being ok...that time. What the doctor and I realized was that I was not taking care of myself and that I was going to sign up for an early grave! So, when I got home I decided to commit myself to my physical and mental well-being first and foremost so I can be a better version of myself.
A year later, I am down to my lowest weight since college, am focused on sleeping better, focused on taking the time to really understanding fasting and food that work for me, focused on reading to feed my brain, focused on spending time with people that I love and care for and most of all not allowing all of the negative noise in the world to give me any additional anxiety!!
When I think about all that I love in this world, the company that once was a dream is alive, well, and flourishing. As my own personal journey showed me how important vision, matched with values I need to live by for myself, I realized the company I created and love needs the same. Most companies our size and age are focused on survival and competitive advantage.
I have always believed culture is what’s most important and a sincere focus on that singular part of our company will provide the optimal environment for experimentation; truly to enable our people to excel and ultimately address competitive advantage, as survival won’t be in question.
Over the past 6 months, our leadership team went through a weekly guided self-exploration, to define the vision for the company and our guiding core values. This was less about what we wish to be and exactly to capture what we have created. The best intent for this process is to make it easy for our employees to describe the culture to our customers, partners, and prospects. EVOTEK has won numerous awards for culture since its inception. These awards include The San Diego Business Journal's Best Places to Work, 2016-2020, and Inc Magazine's Best Places to Work in 2018 & 2020 and San Diego Union Tribune's Top Work Places 2019. I expect we will continue to evolve our company and grow our culture, but what we value will not change.
Over the next week, I’ll share with our community how we defined our vision and six core values, one each day. I look forward to seeing the comments from our community on these.

4 年Cesar, taking care of things around us makes us forget sometimes to take care of ourselves. In the journey for balancing everything around you, it’s also important to remember to balance yourself as well. Strength is important inside as well as out. Be well. Be healthy. Be strong. Many years and great adventures ahead ??

4 年This is one of the great examples of how our leadership is setting a great example for the rest of the team. We should always be striving to make things better and to improve ourselves and our relationships.
I love this about our collective journey, and I can't wait for everyone to see the reveal on our core values. Thank you Cesar Enciso and our leadership team for the leading the way, and sharing with all of us so transparently here at EVOTEK.
