Carly's Government Property Journey
Government Property Function
Government Property is one of the Civil Service Functions. Our aim is simple: to make property better.
I joined the civil service over 20 years ago as a building manager and found a passion for property and in particular Facilities Management. Since then, I have worked for the Home Office, Defra and the Ministry of Justice in a variety of property roles.?
This has given me the opportunity to work on a diverse property portfolio including airports, probation approved premises, prisons, dog kennels, a London HQ and infrastructure of national importance to emergency services. Career highlights include supporting the government estate through the covid-19 pandemic to maintain delivery of public services through probation properties, applying my expertise leading on the technical design of the new MoJ FM contracts, and my team winning a Government Property Award for customer service.??
The variety of the government estate makes for an interesting and exciting place to work and develop as a property professional. I have been supported and encouraged by government property teams and great line managers to embrace my passion for FM and have been able to undertake vocational training, including an apprenticeship and Masters in FM and business administration.
I started my government property career as a building manager for a Home Office training centre, and through making the most of available opportunities working alongside committed and talented property professionals I have been able to grow and develop to now return to the Home Office as Deputy Director for Workplace Services and Projects.? There is always something new to learn and it’s a great place to work if you have a passion for property!
