Carlton Spotlight: Robert (Bobby) Brown

This September, we’re excited to shine the Carlton Spotlight on Robert (Bobby) Brown, our Chief Executive and Chief Legal Officer at Carlton National Resources. Bobby has been with us for 2 ? years and, during this time, his leadership, vision and dedication have been instrumental in our company’s growth and success.

In his role, Bobby takes great pride in working within all facets of our company. With more than 20 years of staffing industry, legal and business experience, he has a lot of wisdom and knowledge to impart. Whether it’s engaging with our Sales and Recruiting teams, collaborating with Shared Services or mentoring interns and support staff, Bobby is deeply involved in both strategy and execution. His hands-on approach ensures that he stays connected with every aspect of the company, fostering a strong sense of unity and purpose.

Reflecting on his time at Carlton, Bobby recalls many memorable experiences, but what stands out most is witnessing a salesperson or recruiter land their first placement. According to Bobby, “Seeing someone land their first placement is a profoundly impactful experience. Witnessing the joy in their face and knowing the sense of accomplishment they feel makes me so incredibly happy for them and their family. Over the past couple of years, we’ve made significant strides in growth and maturation of the company. Along the way, I’ve occasionally heard, ‘I never thought we would do X.’ Being part of a team and knowing we’ve come together to achieve something previously thought improbable makes me very happy and proud to work at Carlton.”

On how he and his team approach challenges, Bobby has this to say: “When it comes to a particular challenge, we avoid a ‘one size fits all approach’ and instead tailor a strategic methodology to fit the problem, ensuring that communication is at the forefront." Whether it’s working together as a team to develop and implement solutions or stepping in to address issues directly, Bobby’s primary focus is keeping everyone informed and aligned. “I do my best to share what we’re doing so folks are in the loop, understand our logic and have the opportunity to ask questions,” notes Bobby. He adds, “Our days are often hectic and schedules are full, so communication is sometimes delayed. I recognize this and it’s an area I’m working to improve.”?

Outside of work, Bobby enjoys spending quality time with his family. With three active kids, you’ll often find Bobby and his wife, Erica, cheering them on at various sporting events or supporting them in their hobbies. Bobby also values staying active himself, with a passion for working out and practicing yoga. Family traditions like annual trips to Ogunquit, ME and Lake Winnipesauke, NH are special to him, as is spending time with his English Black Lab, Oakley, who also holds the title of Carlton’s Chief Doggie Officer.

Bobby’s motivation is deeply rooted in his commitment to Carlton’s employees, consultants and clients. Bobby adds, “For our employees, I want to provide the best experience and environment possible. Seeing that our employees are happy, healthy and successful is tremendously important to me and my fellow leaders. Similarly, providing best in class services to our valued consultants and clients is something we strive for each and every day. We regularly discuss areas where we can improve and work hard to get better.”

Bobby emphasizes, “While we are committed to excellence, we strive for progress not perfection. With the focus on getting a little better each day, we create realistic and achievable goals and regularly celebrate when we reach new milestones.”

For those just starting at Carlton, Bobby advises, “Approach your role with an open mind and take the time to learn from others. Building relationships, finding good mentors and working hard are keys to successfully forging your own path.” However, Bobby also emphasizes the importance of balance and cautions against prioritizing work over things such as family and health. Says Bobby, “While work is obviously important, it should never come before the most important things in life. Don’t skip the kids’ games or date night with your partner; the work will still be there tomorrow.”
