Caring for your emotional energy?

Many of us take care of our physical energy, we practice regular sport, try to eat healthy and drink water, but are we caring for our emotional energy? Actually, what do we mean by emotional energy?
Emotional energy refers to how we feel about our lives and what surrounds us, our work, our family, our friends and, of course, us. Having a positive, well-balanced emotional energy is relevant as it impacts directly on our well-being and the way we feel. This will allow us to always turn up with the best version of ourselves to whatever we are about to undertake.
Issues like relationship problems or health concerns, lack of rest, technology or other addictions, economic challenges, or at a professional level, problems with the boss, work atmosphere, multitasking, lack of daily recharges, or overwhelm can be a silent but persistent eroder of our emotional energy filling us with cortisol, also called the stress hormone.
And that's where the perfect storm starts to build. Our resilience decreases and we start sliding towards the burnout zone, feeling exhausted, sad, and depressed.

What can we do to prevent this? First thing is to acknowledge we have a challenge to solve. Of course, seeking and trying to solve the stress generators will settle up things in the long run, but as some of these may well be beyond our control here are some initiatives we can undertake by ourselves to increase our E.D.S.O. (Endorphin, Dopamine, Serotonin, and Oxytocin). Simple things like practicing a sport or going for a walk, meeting friends, planning and doing a family activity, having a hobby, reading or listening to music will definitely help. But it is all about planning and executing these on a regular basis and not just occasionally, when it is probably already too late. Some may even need to seek professional advice, but there is quite a lot we can do by ourselves to become more balanced and increase our well-being.
Also companies have become increasingly aware that their employees well-being results in higher effectiveness, more commitment and in achieving the best version of their teams. Hence, more and more companies that care for their employees invest in helping them achieve a sustainable balance over time through individual wellness improvement plans and other initiatives that will help leaders and their teams show up their best version every day.
