We at Carlisle are proud to live by our values and when an example of people delivering those values is highlighted to us we love to shout about it.

Recently when I heard about an incident at Anfield involving our security team I sat back and thought .... WOW! If ever there was an example of how to fuse sector based expert and caring passionately for all then this is it.

Our eagle eyed team in the control room spotted something that just didnt look or feel right. Two children (aged 9 and 6) who were walking up and down outside the grounds with their back packs. Nothing new there outside the famous stadium which is visited by hundreds of thousands of people a year. This carried on for a couple of minutes and was noted independently by the control room and the access officer on one of the key entrance points. They felt something wasnt right so contacted each other on the radio. As they discussed the situation they felt they needed to intervene. Something just didn't feel right. The team spoke about their instincts as parents and that acted as their guiding principle.

The officers continued to monitor the children as they moved around the ground. After a few minutes a decision was made to go and speak to them. They were ushered to the safety of the ground whereupon some calls were made. As it turned out they had decided to run away from home and were headed to the city centre to busk for food.

The boys were returned to safety and the arms of loved ones. If it had not been for the eagle eyed performance of the control room, the vigilance of the gate 4 team and the care and empathy of the patrol team who knows what might of happened.

I think the experience has taught the team a lot. We hear the names of the stars ring out in Anfield but what price can you put on the teamwork that read Dave passes to Mark, Mark passes to Steph, Steph passes to Fred and Alex, Alex passes to Dave - Dave gets the parents! An amazing piece of defence.

Again proving good parental instinct and security training go hand in hand. An excellent result and one where we showed our values are key and .... most importantly we didnt let them walk alone!

The instinct of the team was spot on, to take ths time to see beyond the basics of a security officers role in this instance was just fantastic. What a difference they made to that family that day. Well done.

Safeguarding played at the top level. Great piece of ‘defensive’ work Excellent all round vision by the holding midfield in the control room. Fantastic interception by the forwards. Overall a great result Think that’s all the football puns I can get into this post ?????? Seriously well done to the team. They should be very proud of themselves.
