Caring To Improve Your People’s Performance

With time even the best of your employees rise to the level of incompetence. To keep them constantly above this, you have to continually coach them. It is the role of Truly Human Leadership to continually invest in making their people better.

Coaching is an essential part of Truly Human Leadership. It can build will, self-esteem, honors dignity, capacity and capability. It creates a relationship where the employee feel cared for. A company that coaches its people demonstrate care for them and desires them tom operate at their peak.

Coaching help those who are worse to get better and help those who are better to perform at their best. Truly Human Leaders don’t through people under the bus or fire them for none or low performance, rather those people get coached to become better.

When you see to help the employee perform better rather than just fire him or her, you are demonstrate you believe in the human potential the employee possess. Under that human ingenuity is the one resource that cannot never go extinct because it is abundant. An employee who is not performing hasn’t found something that will inspire him to unleash his ingenuity at home.

The aim of coaching therefore is to help the employee find that thing that sparks his genius. Most times employees are placed in a place that doesn’t allow them to bring out their genius. It affects their performance. And of course, they get blamed. The leader who places them where they delegate their genius should have been the one who gets blamed.

A coach doesn’t employ people to fit a role that has been predetermined but rather fit roles to people based on the person’s genius. A Truly Human Leader creates an environment that ensures that people unleash their genius while the manager creates a place where people delegate their genius. The workplace of the future is a place of high performance collaboration where people with similar mindset but different and complementary capabilities work together to create game-changing value.

You can only know people’s genius or strength when you take interest in them, ask questions and observe them while they work. Genius always comes with passion. When you find out what people are passionate about, there you will find their passion and their performance.

When a leader acts as a coach, she places people in their genius zone. When people are placed in a place where they have to delegate their genius or hide it, they become mediocre and perform below their potential. Coaches help people become better and perform at the peak of their potential. Truly Human Leaders create the environment that frees people to focus on their genius.

Match people’s geniuses to roles that will make them perform at their peak. Their genius is unleashed when people are doing what they love to do. It inspires them. As such the experience constant growth, become more confident and courageous, and create unique forms of value.

The most powerful way of unleashing the potential of a company is to coach people to unleash their genius- the ability to work with others to create game-changing value that transforms a whole industry. For that to happen, organizations need to make coaching a part of their people development system.

Purpose That Inspire

If you want to help people become better, then have a cause that they connect with. When we are passionate about a cause or higher purpose, we tend to do much more than we ever imagined we could do. We go the extra mile. We spend more time. We get inspired to bring out the best in us.

As a coach, your responsibility should be to have a cause that you are advancing that resonates with your employees. It is something they love and want to give their life to. You are able to transition them from working for the mundane to having a meaning in life. That unleashes their performance.

Job Crafting

Managers place people in the zone of their incompetence where their genius is delegated and still expect them to perform at their peak. When you place a antelope inside a river and expect it to compete with a fish something must be wrong with you and not the antelope itself.

As a coach, when you know someone has a role-genius mismatch, don’t fire them; allow them to craft a new role that fit their genius. Your role is to allow them unleash their ingenuity and not feel trapped in a role that stresses them. When people do work that doesn’t match their genius, they feel deflated and stressed.

Develop Value Creation Mindset & Skills

Most skills training on jobs are geared towards the role you are playing rather than the value you should be creating for the workplace. As a result people rise to their level of incompetence in a position. At first, they are excited when they get into a position but after a while in it, the excitement wanes. The only way to ensure that the excitement remains is to coach people to be value creators.

Coaches know that the best of our humanity comes out when we are creating value for others. Leaders, therefore, ensure that their people are regularly coached to develop value creation mindset and capabilities. They need the mindset to imagine and see value whereon one sees and then their capabilities to create the value.

Escape Entitlement

When your people get to the level of their incompetence, they become entitled. They stop creating new forms of value but rather spend their time talking about their past and maintaining the status quo. Their performance not only suffers but also affects the performance and productivity of the entire company.

However, when they are coached, they bypass the entitlement and get into the Entitlement Free Zone. They are guided to make decisions that empowers them to be responsibility for their economic security, move from economic slavery to economic mastery, make their future bigger and better than their past and become highly useful to their employer by creating new forms of value.

Work For Freedom

Employees have different reasons for working among which the lowest reason for working is to earn money and make a living. Work should be about the freedom to make a life. In trying to make a living, employees give up their freedom. They high up the corporate ladder they climb, the less and less freedom they have.

A coach understands that it is best to work for freedom rather than for money. You get meaning and do what you love when you see freedom. Employees need to be coached to be what I called 10X Freedom Expanders, people who believe they will gain more freedom as they help their employees attain freedom.
