Isn’t it strange how little incidents from your childhood remain permanently fixed in your mind only to pop up later to haunt you?
I don't remember the exact incident but at the age of about four or five I must have pulled an ugly face at something that frustrated me or made me very angry because I remember being told to change my expression quickly before the wind changed - or else my face would stay like that.
I do remember the sudden feeling of panic. So quickly before the wind had time to change direction, I managed to put on a watery smile and I’m pleased to report that I was able to get ahead of the wind just in the nick of time.
Because my face didn’t stay like that!
But sad to relate, there are some people who haven’t been so lucky. People who haven’t managed to compose their faces before the wind changed direction.
And so their faces have remained stuck in a permanently tense expression between hostility and anger.
I’m sure you’ve seen expressions like this where people have deep lines running down both sides of their down-turned mouths and scrunched up lines between their eyebrows.
But here’s the strange thing that I would like to suggest as "weird and wonderful" - you will also see these deep lines of irritation and anger etched into the handwriting of a habitually angry personality.
Don’t believe me?
I assure you it's true.
Take a look at Anger and Resentment ??and you'll easily see how the signs of temporary irritation versus a permanently hostile attitude are reflected in handwriting.
