Be careful what you wish for
'Be careful what you wish for.' my mother used to say.
Those words whispered through my mind this morning as I walked to grab a coffee, wearing my mask, virtually no traffic on the roads - isolation, restrictions, holding us captive in our homes and within a small 5km radius in Melbourne, the city I now call home.
And then I thought, maybe we've all been wishing for this, praying for this, attracting this:
'I wish I had more time at home'
'I wish I could spend more time with my children'
'I wish I just had some time to sit and read that pile of books I keep buying and adding to'
'I wish I had more time to experiment in the kitchen'
'I wish I could find time to really get stuck into the gardening'
'I wish I had more quiet time to pray and meditate'
'I wish I could get that craft project underway'
'I wish...'
The question is, are we making the most of it? It may be a long while before we have this kind of time again.
I'm reminded of the Israelites who, for those who don't know Bible stories, were called out of slavery in Egypt but then found themselves in the desert, the wilderness, complaining and wanting to have back exactly what they had cried out to God to save them from.
'Be careful what you wish for!'
You may just get it.

4 年Great call and the reference to the Bible story of the Israelites Vanessa. Indeed the unintended consequences of wishful and self thinking can often bite hard.
