BE CAREFUL WITH SUSPICIOUS AIRCRAFT OFFERS
There have been so many suspicious aircraft for sale, lease offers even here on the LinkedIn site. Experienced industry experts could spot suspicious claims instantly. Those offers won't attract seasoned industry veterans but attract attention from those who are new to the business. Followings are suggested guidelines for anyone interested in buying or leasing aircraft.
- Please check production list of the aircraft. Especially those offers of aircraft manufactured recently or scheduled to be delivered this year. Latest models most likely not available for sale unless such models are failed in the market. Latest models most likely delivered to operators and scheduled to be delivered to operators. You can check and count the number of such models produced in the year claimed in the ads. You would be able to figure out offers shown in the ads are genuine or not. You should ignore if all the aircraft produced are delivered and in operation or scheduled to be delivered to operators. Some may claim that their aircraft are not publicly announced if you raise the question. Then check total order tally, breakdowns to see how many are undisclosed units. You can also contact the manufacturer to check too.
- Do not deal with any aircraft without disclosure of MSN. There is no reason for dealers not to disclose MSN of aircraft they offer. Such dealers may not have mandates from the aircraft owners. Their interests are protected by mandates issued by aircraft owners if they have mandates so there is no reason to hide MSN.
- It is recommended to contact advertisers listed in Airfax, Speedbird and other known mediums in the industry as they only list aircraft with verified MSN, mandates. Most of the leasing companies, airlines, financial institutions who own aircraft list their available aircraft there, not on LinkedIn. Is there anyone seen aircraft advertised by major aircraft leasing companies, airlines, financial institutions on LinkedIn?
- It is recommended to conduct aircraft inspection and avoid the purchase under AS IS WHERE IS' basis if possible as it may give you surprises with costly maintenance.
It is recommended to hire professionals to conduct checks, inspections if you are not sure. Small fee for their services may save you from potential big losses. There are rogue traders who are trying to make a big money by offering non-existing or no-available aircraft.
Don't fall into their trap and seek professional help.

6 年Also be aware of requests for upfront fees or similar ways to get some money out of your pocket. If it is a broker, ask for an exclusive mandate.?

6 年Very succinct highlight of a couple of the potential pitfalls for those looking to purchase aircraft and components. The statement about hiring a professional firm to provide aircraft inspection services is so important. The cost of an inspection and report accompanying as much documentation as possible can not only mitigate against potential problems now but can bolster value on the backend as well.
