Be careful how you promote yourself!!!

I am inspired to write this short post by concerns about how technology related people promote themselves through the social media platforms.

With the sophisticated attack vectors being used by cyber criminals would you really want to advertise in your profile that as part of your duties with your company you have responsibility for "x data centers in <location> with XX million patient records"

Why make it easy for the cyber criminals?...they are unfortunately good at what they do without any assistance.

Please share this post and hopefully we can inspire a bit more caution. Some things should just be on a need to know basis. Surely this is one of them?

Hi Keith, you are so right here and there are indeed security issues associated here and especially with phishing attempts and if the attackers know who deals directly with that part of data protection or firewalls etc. then it makes attackers job even easier. A company's security policies should also be extended to social media platforms as it could compromise security in a big way and there is always the point of compliance issues.
