CareFirst Gives Back to the Community

CareFirst took part in the annual Together We Serve volunteer event organized by The 6th Branch. Hundreds of volunteers gathered not only from CareFirst, but also Under Armour, BG&E, Legg Mason and McCormick, just to name a few. We had a warm welcome from Senator Chris VanHollen, Mayor Catherine Pugh, Delegate Cory McCray and Robert Stokes, Sr. of District 12. Regina Hammond, president of the Johnston Square community, also gave her thanks to the volunteers and recognized their impact on the community.

Some of the activities volunteers dedicated their time included:

·         Handing out Under Armour backpacks to the students of Johnston Square Elementary School.

·         Painting the JSE auditorium and art projects to beautify the school.

·         Johnston Square park landscape and beautification project and the removal of old fencing.

·         Property clean up, weeding, and planting at both Charm City Farm and Oliver Community Farm.

There is no greater blessing than giving back to others and serving your community. To see the smiles on children's faces and participate in conversations with residents of Johnston Square who are so thankful for our service made a day that is usually filled with sorrowful memories a positive one. Working for a company that supports a mission of giving back to the community, and puts so much time and effort into doing so, is a rarity that I am very grateful for.
