This is where students step into a simulated world that mirrors life beyond school, setting personal goals and choosing a path to individual success. Throughout their journey, students are motivated to earn and learn skills and qualifications. They are immersed in real-world scenarios, helping them comprehend the long-term impact of their choices.

Topic Goal

There has been an increasing concern within schools that students stepping out of the school environment are underprepared for what lies ahead. Offering students a safe space to simulate future work and study experiences can help address this issue. Our approach allows students to understand the consequences of their choices before stepping into the real world. This helps schools fulfil their pastoral care commitments and equips students for future success.

Learning Outcomes

Banqer's Career Pathways Topic aligns with the recently developed Education 4.0 Taxonomy (World Economic Forum 2023). It supports learning outcomes across attitudes, abilities, and knowledge, including:

• Gaining knowledge across various areas such as Jobs, Superannuation and Higher Education
• Enhancing communication skills through digital profile creation and job/course application processes
• Cultivating critical thinking by evaluating different jobs and superannuation funds, and establishing connections between career goals and study options
• Developing socio-emotional awareness by navigating job interviews, aligning Superannuation fund selection with personal needs and values, and adapting to changing market conditions

How Career Pathways works

The student-led and student-directed nature of Career Pathways means educators don't need specialised knowledge or preparation to facilitate lessons. Instead, they can focus on engaging students in meaningful dialogues and guiding them through the content. Educators have the opportunity to enrich these conversations with their own financial journey stories, offering priceless insights into the realities of life after school.

The Student Experience

After setting up their bank accounts in the Banking Topic, students unlock the Career Pathways Topic. From here, they will:

• Embark on multiple journeys across Jobs, Superannuation and Higher Education
• Choose future careers and apply for jobs or studies that align with their aspirations
• Engage in regular check-ins to their jobs or courses each school day
• Test their knowledge via regular study or job check-in quizzes
• Unlock new areas like Living Costs, where they choose a flat and set up living expenses
• Respond to simulated real-life scenarios that challenge their understanding and require action aligned with their goals
• Have the flexibility to change their pathway if they decide it's not for them, managing the consequences just as they would in the real world

By the end of their journey, students will have valuable insights into life after school. Understanding the costs and benefits of different pathways, they'll be empowered to make informed decisions about their future.
